Shaping the Future of Oak Park Parks

Taylor Park Site Master Plan Development
Currently work has been completed on the development of a site master plan for Taylor Park. The overall objective of a site plan is to provide “a framework or blueprint for future park renewal.”

Taylor Park, purchased by the Park District in 1914, was originally designed by renowned landscape architect Jens Jensen. At 11.75 acres, Taylor Park is the second largest park in the Park District system. Currently park features include a comfort station/restroom, tot lot, soccer field, tennis courts, picnic area, and sledding hill. In the 2006 Dogs in Oak Park Master Plan, it was recommended that Taylor Park be evaluated, during the Park District's master planning process, as a potential site for a permanent dog park.

Focus groups were held in mid-March to collect information on safety and security, buildings and grounds (focus group notes), passive space, sports and creative play (focus group notes). A focus group was also held with Park District staff (focus group notes).

The first community meeting to gather public input regarding the current and future use of Taylor Park was held on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 7pm at Andersen Center, 824 N. Hayes (meeting notes). A PowerPoint presentation was delivered followed by an opportunity for participants to provide their input.

A questionnaire was available at this website from Tuesday, April 8 through Wednesday, May 21, 2008 to collect additional input regarding the site plan development. Questionnaire Results If you would like the complete questionnaire results including the responses to the open ended questions, please email Diane Stanke at dianes@oakparkparks.com.

The second community meeting to collect additional public input was held on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 7pm at Andersen Center, 824 N. Hayes (meeting notes). A PowerPoint presentation was delivered and park amenities were discussed.

The third community meeting to discuss the development of the Taylor Park Site Plan was held on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 7pm at Andersen Center, 824 N. Hayes. (meeting notes) A PowerPoint presentation was delivered and park concepts (below)were discussed.
