Shaping the Future of Oak Park Parks
Maple Park Site Master
Plan Development
A site master
plan has been developed for Maple Park. The following is a description of the site planning process.
Focus groups were held in mid-June
to collect information on safety and security, buildings
and grounds, passive space, sports and creative play. A
focus group was also held with Park District staff. (focus
group comments)
The first
community meeting to gather information regarding the
current and future use of Maple Park was held on Monday,
June 18, 2007 at 7:30pm at Carroll Center. (meeting comments) A questionnaire was
distributed at this meeting to collect input from participants and posted on this website.
A second
community meeting was held on Monday, July 16, 2007
at 7:30pm at Carroll Center to collect additional community input.(meeting comments) The questionnaire was also distributed at this meeting. Questionnaires were accepted by Altamanu through July 20, 2007 (questionnaire results).
The third community meeting was held on Monday, August 6 at 7:30pm at Carroll Center to present park concepts. (meeting comments) In total, thirteen drawings were presented of the South, Central, and North sections of Maple Park. Listed below are the 7 concept drawings which were discussed in detail at the third community meeting. Three drawings, one each of the South, Center, and North sections of the park, were selected by the community members in attendance at the third community meeting as their consensus for the future master plan. The three drawings have been combined into a draft consensus plan which you can also view below.
A fourth community meeting was held Monday, September 10 at 7:30pm at Carroll Center, 1125 S. Kenilworth, to review and discuss the draft consensus plan. (meeting comments)
A site plan recommendation was presented and discussed at
the Park Board Committee of the Whole Meeting on Thursday,
October 4, 2007 at 7:30pm at the Oak Park Conservatory. Specifically
discussed was the location of the tennis courts at the southwest
corner of the park. After this meeting the Park District
met with representatives from the Village, Police Department
and safety consultants to review and discuss the plan further.
As a result of these discussions and further review by the
Park Board Buildings & Grounds Committee at the Committee
of the Whole Meeting on Thursday, November 1, 2007, the location
of the tennis courts in the southwest corner of the park
has been modified. This Maple Park site master plan was accepted at the Regular
Park Board Meeting on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the
Hedges Administrative Center, 218 Madison.
