Euclid Square Park Site Master Plan Development

Euclid Square ParkA site master plan is currently being developed for Euclid Square Park. Issues being addressed during the planning process include:

Tennis court, ball field and playcenter renovation
Grading & drainage problems
Poor Tree Health
Park lighting

The overall objective of a site plan is to provide “a framework or blueprint for future park renewal.” Euclid Square Park is a 2.81 acre park located at 705 W. Fillmore, 1 block east of Oak Park Avenue and 1 block north of Roosevelt Road. Current park amenities include an all-purpose field, a 60' baseball/softball field, 4 tennis courts, and playground apparatus.

The following is an outline of the planning process.

Two focus groups were held in late March to begin to collect information regarding the current and future use of Euclid Square Park. A focus group was held regarding safety & security and buildings & grounds. (Focus Group 1 Notes) An additional focus group was held regarding creative play, passive space & sports areas. The first community meeting to gather initial public input regarding the current and future use of Euclid Square Park was held on Tuesday, April 14 at 7pm at the Oak Park Conservatory, 615 Garfield Street. (1st Meeting Notes)

Euclid Square 3All residents were invited to complete the Euclid Square Park Questionnaire to provide input regarding future park amenities. (questionnaire results)

A second community meeting to present 4 draft concepts (schemes) and collect additional community input was held Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Oak Park Conservatory, 615 Garfield Street. A third community meeting to present a final draft recommendation took place on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 7pm at the Oak Park Conservatory, 615 Garfield Street. (3rd Meeting PowerPoint Presentation - 5MB) (3rd Meeting Notes)

Next Steps
The Park Board of Commissioners reviewed the Euclid Square Park Site Plan final draft recommendation at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Oak Park Conservatory, 615 Garfield Street. At the Regular Park Board Meeting on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Hedges Administrative Center, the Park Board accepted the Euclid Square Park Site Plan.
